Gower Sept 7-9th 2007
The weather was brilliant for the whole week-end – warm and sunny, but not too hot. The accommodation was luxurious by usual standards (from the writers limited experience of club meets), with non-plastic mattresses, quilts, pillows and clean linen. 5 showers in total with Graham getting the room that had a full en-suite. ![]() There were also TV’s and 3 on-line computers for research and saving photos etc. The views were spectacular and there was access to Rhossili Down on the front doorstep. The field next to the BBQ etc had sheep in it – but, bizarrely, they were mostly lame. Kirsty thought it was a ‘shelter for sick sheep’ but Graham was more sceptical!? ![]() The Worms Head Hotel (pub – 1k away) – has a brilliant terrace on top of the cliffs and overlooking the 4 mile beach – food and beer was good with local real ale and steaks and seafood. ![]() On Saturday we did Worms Head as the tides were right and scrambled back along the cliffs via Falls Bay. Kirsty made it to almost the top of Worms Head which was a big achievement for her, (vertigo sufferer) and we all saw the seals as promised including a couple of pups – very cute. Other wildlife was collected and eaten by Graham and Dave. Everyone ate lots of blackberries and got lot of sun on various body parts and differing head parts.(?) Falls Bay was deemed too wet to climb due to the tides on Saturday. Had to go to the pub again after a search on Rhossili Down for ancient forts etc. There was a local acoustic band playing and had more local ale and – oh – puddings – with more beer. ![]() Sunday climbing on Three Cliffs and got there before the crowds of climbers and staked our claim. The picture here showing a cunning little route into the cave roof, through a chimney and out onto the top of the cliffs with a choice of scary routes off or up and over onto the downs. I spoke to the guy ion the picture above later, he said he’d only been climbing less than a year. Later we got invaded by Germans and a madman called Nils who had a well dodgy way of testing his gear, (he basically jumped off the edge and pulled the gear as hard as he could; if it wasn’t right, he wouldn’t have lived to say so.) Also, Kirsty got a ‘pervy’ shot of two climbers/lovers kissing on a traverse which she thought was romantic. Tide stopped play at about three so more cake, ice-cream and tea etc. was called for. All in all a brilliant week-end, pity that there weren’t more people there to enjoy it. ![]()
