Great meet on the Gower peninsular me Becky & Amy arrived late on Thursday night and managed to pitch up in the dry.  Kirsty had arrived earlier in the day and picked a dry area on the campsite, although we never got a cup of tea on arrival. Friday morning came and we were all syked for a day climbing. We headed down from Nicholaston Farm, to Little Tor (10 mins walk) and arrived around noon just as the tide was going out. Becky Started By leading Left Edge (Diff) a cracking line with big jugs and plenty of foot holds. The route was seconded by myself,  Amy and Kirsty.  Next I lead up Left Flake corner (VD) another nice line. By this time the sun had really got to work and it was just like climbing in Spain, shorts, tees and rolled up trousers. After lunch Beck lead Right Corner (Severe) and I lead Central Flake (severe). We headed back to the campsite and pitched Ian & Dee’s NEW tent ready for them. They along with Steve, Joel & Jack arrived soon after.

Saturday began with a big Full English at the campsite, then we all headed off to Boiler Slab, The weather was against us and drizzled all day, Becky lead Pinnacle Route (VDiff) and everyone climbed the route on belay. I lead Classic which again everyone climbed, I would say Dee looked the happiest to reach the top nice one! The rock was getting really wet now so we set up a top rope on Dulfer (severe) and everyone climbed that route. I Then set up a top rope (cheers for the belay Ian) on Direct (VS)  an awesome climb with a B***H of a start Me and Jack managed it but I think the height advantage played a part. Steve, Jack, Joel and Amy also practiced setting up a belay & some lead climbing. Being soaked though we all headed off to the pub and had a meal and a pint.

During Saturday night into Sunday the rain was so heavy it sounded like someone was throwing gravel at the tent. So we decided to stay in bed and then have another fry up. Everyone there decided to pack up the tents then we headed out on a coastal walk to Three Cliffs Bay, the rain was heavy and the view poor so after a couple of hours we were back at the cars and heading home.

A great weekend on a cracking campsite with a great bunch of people. Think this meet needs to become a yearly one for sure!

See you all on the rock soon.

Nick Owens
